Random Acts

Chandler wanted to go fishing last Sunday, so we went down to the lake by my folks' house.

We took Chandler to the Mall for cinnamon rolls, and to look around at the crumble. Afterwards, we went back to Sears (we should have known not to push our luck)
We got off a few choice shots (just in time for Easter) before a Sears manager (a 20 year old kid) confronted us. Sonya and Chandler ran out, leaving me to talk to the kid and pretend to delete the pictures off my camera.

Spring Update

In the last days at Nick and Sara's we had a few chicken scares. We thought we had lost Meredith, the cutest of the chickens, but it turned out that she was just sleeping under another chicken when we were looking for her. We spent the night all worried and sick with fear that a fox had swept her away. Another day we thought a chicken was in the process of dying, and we were saying our goodbyes to her. She was all heavy breathing and sweat on her brow, with other chickens looking on. A few minutes later, she dropped an egg, and then was completely fine
We'll miss the eggs and the fresh air

Penn from the Bean was due on march 15th. She had her baby (Ella Dee Flashner) on March 10th.
For fun the other day, Sonya and I snuck into the Sears Photo Studio in the Foothills Fashion mall. We took some of our own pics with my camera before we got all paranoid and fled.

On a sad note, the Hallmark store closed. It used to be called "Roley's", and it was the only place in town to get cards and little knick-knack gifts. My dad still has this tiny little (about the size of a ping-pong ball) kitten figurine that I got him for his birthday one year. I remember looking at it in Roley's and thinking that he'd like it (I was about 6 years old). I also remember loving that store, getting lost in the colors and wax products (candles, etc). It was sights and smells and colors, all potpourri and reds and blues

Farm Life

We moved out of the Antlers Hotel at the end of January. It was an experiment in living, maybe living in nostalgia. I have such great memories of how that place used to be, with Will, Mia, Adam, Molly S, Christa etc. But I will miss the place. I was able to wake up at 6:26 am and be at work by 6:30 am. The Food Co-Op was just down the block. And I liked stepping onto the back patio and watching the sky.
Now we're out at Nick and Sara's farm, farm sitting. they have a kitten (Leny) and about 20 chickens. We can't keep up with egg production. We've been having a lot of quiche just to keep up.This is my dad looking over the chickens.

John-Paul is getting along with the kitten Leny. She has brought out their energetic side that had laid dormant while they stayed in the tiny Antler's apartment. These photo's don't really prove that he's changed much, but he has.

Heading South

We stopped for the night in Trinidad and did some exploring. this is outside the Fox theater in Downtown Trinidad, where everything is depressed and a bit run down. We grabbed a beer at "the Other Place" and then walked around. Maybe it's because I'm reading 2666 right now that everything took on a violent edge, dusty tumbleweeds and wind creating a feeling of tanked hope. Inside the Fox we were two of eight people that ventured out to see "Valkyrie". The heater was broken and I could see my breath in the men's bathroom
